Solo in Oslo

Solo in Oslo

I just got back from probably the best vacation I’ve ever planned myself. I started in Oslo, and then went to Bergen (read about that here) and finished again in Oslo.

Before heading to Norway I wanted to be really careful on my budgeting. Everyone warned me that Norway was really expensive, and I wanted to make sure not to break the bank.

Turns out, Norway is truly affordable, depending on what kind of vacation you want. City, with a mix of luxury and poshness, yes, like any vacation it racks up fast. But if you are willing to do a more laid back trip, and cut corners on the luxury, buy groceries and book your own transportation, you’ll do fine. I actually couch-surfed in Norway. It was my first time, but it saved me a lot of money and gave me a great experience. So if that is a possibility I would really reccomend it. Also if you want to do a lot in the city, I would get the Oslo pass. It starts at 30 euros a day, but gives you free transportation and entry into museums. I used mine to the fullest, and it made my time more flexible.

Want to know my Favourite memories? There were a lot…

The International Museum of Children’s Art

I have no pictures of this spot, as photography was not allowed, but it was truly just a museum full of Children’s work. I LOVED my time here. I think just the fact that this art got a place to be shown, and a room full of childlike wonder, awe and imagination was wonderful for me. I didn’t think I would like it as much as I did, but I purchased 12 postcards from there, and most of them for my own private collection. I would google this, it was a lot of fun.

Frogner Park and the Vigeland Sculptures

This is the biggest park in Oslo, and contains a sculpture installation made my Gustav Vigeland (largest park installation, by any one artist). I was blown away by these sculptures, and the pictures really do not do it justice. They were an incredibly moving monument of the human experience.

Holmenkollen Ski Jump
Just a place for all those snow sport loving people like me (well Norway is a great place for that in general), but this jump and museum is awesome. They also have a great section about climate change and enviornment protection that I appreciated.

Nobel Peace Center

Just very informative, and special place. I didn’t take any pictures, because I wanted to really be in that space and I really learned a lot, and gained a little inspiration about the work being done in our world. I would definitely go with a clear head and check it out.

And ya, I enjoyed some cake, went to a Swing Music night and just had a blast in general. Oslo, I really do rate you as one of the number one cities I visited. Thanks for the great time…
