Norway Part 2: Bergen…

Norway Part 2: Bergen…

I recently wrote about my trip to Oslo (read here). I was in Oslo for about three days and then I made my way to Bergen.

I cannot explain what a wonder Bergen was… I was worried I would be bored there after my time in Oslo, but not at all!

There were just so many wonders, my highlights are as followed.

The Train Ride from Oslo to Bergen

Known to be one of the most beautiful train rides in Europe, I’d have too tenatively agree (the train ride from Zurich to Zermatt is still my favourite). That being said, the landscapes were incredibly beautiful and diverse. We went from Oslo’s coastal look, to snow covered mountains, to rivers and valleys in Voss and Bergen’s cost again. It was just amazing.

My Couch Surfer Host

I think my trip was actually made by my good experience with this host. I was incredibly surprised, he gave me the key to the house and room! I had a wonderful little place to stay at night, and I spent the day out and about and then came back to eat dinner with him and hear his stories about Barcelona, Copenhagen, etc. He was an excellent and creative vegan cook, and I just loved out conversations in general. I think just having this stable base gave me a great place to rest and charge my social batteries, before I went to enjoy the city on my own…

The Weather
Apparently it rains about 280 days a year in Bergen, but when I was there it was ALL clear skies and sun. I got lucky, but it made the trip amazing.

The Main Reason: The Nature

The wildlife and its protection of nature was one of my main reasons to go to Norway (more on this here). And I could not be more amazed by what I saw. I thought Bergen was situated really well, as I could enjoy the coastal view, explore the Fjords, go hiking in the mountains or even go skiing all withing a 30 minute to 3 hour radius. It was just perfect.

I spent so much time just hiking and exploring. I can’t try to put into words what I saw, but here are some pictures to capture a mere blick.

  • Coastal View
  • Mount Fløyen
  • Journey through the Fjords, and Kyodsfossen

As I am sure you can imagine… I spent much time blown away. The world is so much more beautiful than I can sometimes process, and I am forever grateful for the opportunity to see it…
